NEW YORK (AP) — Betnjiah Laney scored 19 points and Breanna Stewart added 14 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to help the New York Liberty rout the Connecticut Sun 89-58 on Friday night and clinch at least a top two seed in the playoffs.The Liberty (29-7) trail Las Vegas by 1 1/2 games for the top overall spot. HOUSTON (AP) — Houston second baseman Jose Altuve left Friday night against the New York Yankees after one inning because of a bruised left leg.Batting leadoff, Altuve grounded out and then walked gingerly to the dugout. He stopped to chat with manager Dusty Baker for a minute before being approached by the team’s trainer and walking out of the dugout toward the clubhouse with the trainer.He was replaced by Mauricio Dubón to start the second inning. Altuve has been on the injured list twice this season. He missed about three weeks in July with an oblique injury after not making his season debut until May 19 after fracturing his left thumb in the World Baseball Classic. The 2017 AL MVP has been great since returning from the oblique injury and is batting .312 with 10 homers and 34 RBIs this season. (KDVR) — An ice cream truck driver is recovering from an attack in Brighton on Thursday afternoon.Lyman Hamlin came across a group of people near Benedict Park, where he was selling ice cream out of a truck, as he usually does. He said someone in the group asked him for a free ice cream on their birthday."I said, 'No, I can't do that. What if the three of us spank you for your birthday?'" Hamlin said, and when I said that he jumped in the truck and started hitting me."The person Hamlin is talking about left him bloodied and beaten in his truck."Well, I wanted him to stop hitting me," Hamlin said.
