Woman surrenders to SWAT team after barricading self at business in Wilton Manors

A woman who barricaded herself at a South Florida business was taken into custody by SWAT teams. SWAT and Wilton Manors Police arrived at the scene at Dragon Lily Tattoo, located at 500 W. Oakland Park Blvd, Thursday afternoon. 7News cameras captured the woman with her hands up as she surrendered to officers. During the hours long standoff, traffic at Oakland Park Boulevard, between Andrews and Powerline Road, was closed down. Drivers are urged to take alternate routes. Worcester police searching for two children taken by their biological mother

Worcester police asked for the public’s help Thursday afternoon after police said a non-custodial parent took two of her biological children from a site on Brussel Street. Police identified the woman who allegedly took the children as Tiffany Cancel, 47. Police also identified the children as 11-year-old Joaquin Cancel and 9-year-old Avery Cancel. Joaquin Cancel, police said, was wearing white sneakers, red and blue pants and a light blue T-shirt.Avery Cancel was wearing multi-colored shorts, a gray t-shirt with Sonic on it and blue Crocs shoes.Police described a suspect vehicle in the case as a white Buick Rendezvous with a New Jersey license plate of B50RYX.Anyone with information is asked to call 911.This is a developing story; stay with 7NEWS on-air and online for the latest updates.

Father and daughter rescued after boat strikes part of shipwreck, starts sinking off Rockport

Rockport harbormasters raced to the rescue Tuesday to help a father and daughter after the pair’s boat struck wreckage from a 1940s shipwreck and began sinking. The incident happened behind the outer breakwater at Rockport Harbor. When help arrived, Harbormaster Scott Story said he and fellow Harbormaster Rosemary Lesch found the pair perched on a small section of their 40-foot boat that was still above water.“They were holding on for dear life,” Story said. “Nothing except for four feet of the bow was showing,” Story separately said. The father and daughter had just picked up their new boat in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and were in the process of driving it south to North Carolina when the harbormasters said they unknowingly went into dangerous territory. Despite buoys marking the decades-old 1940s shipwreck, Story said the boaters hit the wreckage. “That sunk them very quickly,” Lesch said.The boater’s radio died in the middle of talking to the Coast Guard....

SAN DIEGO -- A brush fire burning in the Potrero community prompted evacuations Thursday afternoon.The fire broke out on Coyote Holler Road, Cal Fire San Diego said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. New Hampshire sheriff charged with theft, perjury and falsifying evidence

(AP) — A New Hampshire sheriff has been arrested and charged with eight felonies as part an investigation into his misuse of county credit cards, the state attorney general announced Thursday. Strafford County Sheriff Mark Brave, who campaigned in 2020 to be the state’s only Black sheriff, is charged with one count of theft by deception for stealing about $19,000 in county funds by submitting reimbursement for personal expenses with false justifications; two counts of falsifying physical evidence; and five counts of perjury for lying in his testimony before the Strafford County Grand Jury, Attorney General John Formella said. “The decision to charge an elected constitutional officer is not one that is made lightly and it’s not a place that we ever want to be. TORONTO — Strength in energy stocks Thursday wasn’t enough to keep Canada’s main stock index from posting a loss amid weakness in tech and other sectors, while U.S. markets also declined. It feels like there’s a bit of a change in tone after the second quarter as markets search for direction following a very strong start to the year, said Kevin Burkett, portfolio manager at Victoria-based Burkett Asset Management. “I think the next four to six weeks are going to be really critical to send the markets either on its continued growth path or maybe cool things off,” he said. The S&P/TSX composite index was down 86.84 points at 19,812.23. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 290.91 points at 34,474.83.
